What is Oystar?
Oystar turns your company documents into clear, cited answers. Your team can ask questions in everyday language, find information across departments and verify the original sources. Knowledge bases and access permissions keep each answer relevant to the person asking.
How is Oystar different from traditional search?
Oystar brings information from multiple sources into one answer, with inline citations so you can check the details. It searches by meaning and keywords, then ranks relevant passages before generating a response. Your team spends less time opening files and more time using what they know.
How does Oystar protect access to sensitive information?
Oystar applies access permissions before selecting the sources for an answer. Documents outside a user’s permissions are excluded from retrieval and cannot inform their response. Your teams can work from shared knowledge while keeping restricted information within its access boundaries.
Which file types and sources does Oystar support?
You can upload PDF, Word, PowerPoint, HTML, JSON, CSV and image files. Oystar reads scanned pages and makes charts and diagrams searchable. Native source connectors, including Google Drive, Slack history, Microsoft 365, Notion, Dropbox and Confluence, are on the roadmap. Audio and video are not yet supported.
Can we use Oystar through Slack or WhatsApp?
Talk to us about a custom Slack or WhatsApp integration so your team can access Oystar within its existing messaging workflows. Our team will scope the setup, access controls and rollout with you. These custom workflows are separate from native connectors for importing channel history, which remain on the roadmap.
Can Oystar run on our own infrastructure?
Yes. Oystar supports private cloud and on-premise deployment, with embedding, search and reranking running locally on CPU. No GPU is required for those workloads. Answer generation uses Anthropic's API, sending the retrieved passages the user has permission to access.
Does Oystar train on our company data?
No. Your company content is used to answer your questions, not to train models. Answer generation runs through Anthropic's API, which does not train on the passages Oystar sends. In private deployments, document storage, embedding, search and reranking stay within your infrastructure.
How is Oystar priced?

How long does it take to get started?
Start by uploading documents to your first knowledge base. Oystar indexes them in the background, so your team can begin asking questions once processing is complete. Our team can help scope a rollout around your sources, permissions and deployment requirements.
